Our LED-lit Spiral
Cellars are part

Crafted from engineered limestone concrete, the ingenious design can work almost anywhere, without the need for an existing basement or cellar.

Our spiral wine cellars can be installed in less than 9 days and in most instances, don’t require planning permission.

It’s more than a place to keep your collection. A spiral wine cellar is a portal to the extraordinary. A descending, winding wonder beneath your feet; a triumph of engineering and design that will keep every bottle at its finest … and make choosing that perfect wine the best part of your day.

The perfect conditions for your wine to thrive.

There’s nothing like the pleasure of a well-cellared wine. And our Spiral Cellar is designed to create the optimal conditions for each bottle to be enjoyed at its best.

Like a traditional cellar, the Spiral Cellars natural passive ventilation maintains ideal temperature and humidity conditions. No more premature ageing or oxidation from dried-out corks. No vibration to disturb its delicate ageing process. No risk of it breaking down. No running costs. Just pure cellaring perfection.

Our natural passive ventilation system uses the thermal properties of the cool-to touch limestone concrete used in our cellars to allow the natural cooling ground temperature to be absorbed, just like in a traditional cellar. Natural air pressure brings cool, moist air in through an outside pipe. The cool, moist air is heavy and pushes the cellar air down to vent out through the bottom of the column. This maintains the Spiral Cellars natural humidity level.

“Given my line of work, it’s imperative for me to keep wine in professional but easily accessible cellaring conditions at home. That’s why I chose to have a Spiral Cellar installed. I really couldn’t do my job without it”

Choosing your
Spiral Cellar door.

Whether you want a spectacular showcase or a concealed hideaway, the wine cellar door is your key to getting the right look and feel. And we have a wide variety of styles and shapes to choose from…

Made to suit
your style.

Your passion for wine is individual to you. So your Spiral Cellar will be too. From the style of wine cellar door, to stair tread coverings and accessories – you can choose yours to suit what you love.

Limestone White
Pebble Grey

Choose your colour

The Spiral Cellar comes in two colourways: Limestone White for a crisp, contemporary feel, and Pebble Grey for a more urban look. You can also have the spaces between cellar bins filled or left open – depending whether you prefer a polished or more rustic style.

Choose your cellar depth

Make space for your love of wine to grow. When you’re thinking about the size of your Spiral Cellar, in our experience it’s always better to go slightly bigger than you think you’ll need.

Even if your collection is modest now, you’ll be surprised how quickly it grows once you have the space. As a rough guide, if you’re 6ft or taller, we recommend a cellar depth of at least 2.5 metres to give you a comfortable amount of headroom.

All cellars have an excavation diameter of 2.5m.

2m deep 42 bins ideal for 350 – 1000 bottles
2.5m deep 54 bins ideal for 450 – 1300 bottles
3m deep 66 bins ideal for 550 – 1600 bottles

LED lighting

All Spiral Cellars include LED lights at the top, at the base and under each step to enhance the overall look with crisp, clear, even light. LEDs have the added benefit of giving off less heat than standard light bulbs, which helps maintain the ambient temperature within the cellar.

Getting down to the stairs…

The wonderfully winding stairs are central to how your Spiral Cellar will look and feel so it’s important that you choose a style that works for you – whether that’s with or without stair treads.

Luxury vinyl, in a range of finishes

If you opt for inlays, we offer a variety of hard-wearing yet elegant stair tread options from the Amtico Signature and Bolon ranges. Choose from wood, tile, or stone effect or woven vinyl, to complement your design scheme, and for a luxurious feeling underfoot.

We have four installation options to cater for your individual needs.

Kit
  • You or your contractor buy a Kit from us which the contractor will then install.
  • The contractor digs the hole for the cellar.
  • The Kit has been specifically designed to enable a competent construction team to independently install a Spiral Cellar, even without having any prior cellar knowledge or experience.
  • The cellar is supplied in modular format and installed with the aid of a detailed installation manual.
  • If this is their first cellar install and they are concerned about the level of difficulty or if they would simply like some on-site help, we suggest they take the Assisted Kit option.
  • The cellar structure does not come with a warranty. The door motor has a 1-year warranty.

  • You or your contractor buy a Kit from Spiral Cellars.
  • The contractor digs the hole for the cellar.
  • One of our Installation Managers will be on site for 3 days to provide guidance during the trickier parts of the build.

FAQs

What about Party Wall Awards?

Party Wall Awards are applicable to a Spiral Cellar installation if the excavation is planned to be within 3 metres of a neighbouring owner’s building or structure. This is a very straightforward process, which we can handle on your behalf.

How do you deal with high water tables?

We often install cellars in high water table areas. Our engineers calculate the correct reinforced concrete base specification to counter any water uplift and our incredibly durable waterproof liner system ensures the cellar remains watertight.

Our engineer has suggested that the property foundations will need to be underpinned or taken as deep as the cellar.

You don’t need to worry about adapting or enhancing existing or planned foundations. The cellar will be encircled with a reinforced concrete ring, giving the cellar its own structural integrity that handles incoming surcharge from adjacent footings.

I know planning permission isn’t usually required but what about building regulations?

Building regulations approval is only required when installing into a habitable space such as in the home, not if it’s going in to detached garages or outbuildings. We’ll handle this process for you.

I’m specifying a cellar for my client. How can I find out more about the installation details?

We have a technical manual specially designed for trade professionals. Alternatively, we offer a RIBA – and BIID – approved CPD seminar that outlines the technical structure of the cellar and details the installation process.

What if I live in an area with a high water table?

Our engineer will be able to calculate the correct reinforced concrete base specification to counter any water uplift and our durable waterproof liner system will ensure that the cellar remains watertight.

What if I have running sand in the area?

Our specially designed shuttering system is gradually installed and propped as the dig descends. The propping ensures the shuttering system is secure at all times and makes it possible to dig in even the worst
ground conditions. Not only is the cellar structure designed to deal with the loads of all ground conditions, but our engineers will consider your specific build scenario to ensure that the cellar poses no risk to the rest of
your house.
